Nepali Politics on Asia Pacific Forum, 99.5 FM, New York

Nepali politics seldom receives the kind of coverage in the international media as Nepalis and Nepali journalists hope for it to. Usually it takes something extraordinary, such as the Constituent Assembly Election of April 10, or a King stepping down and becoming the 'former king.' An uprising gets attention too as does a massacre.

When, over the weekend and then on Monday, Nepal completed its election of the country's first President and Vice President, it barely made a blip on the radars of international editors. The team at Asia Pacific Forum noticed it too, and invited me back to their studios to follow up on the conversation that had started in April when they had first invited me on air to talk about the CA polls.

Please note that on Asia Pacific Forum I say that MJF is the third largest party in the CA. It is third only if the largest party, the Maoist, is not counted. Otherwise, it is the fourth largest party with 54 seats. Maoists have 229, Nepali Congress 115 and UML 108 of the 601 member CA.

If you claim to be so analytical, you should now get into how the Maoists want to turn the country into one-party communist dictatorship. Many of their leaders have openly said this and that they want to put it in upcoming constitution if they can. What can be more anachronistic?
